Description

Derrydale Press, New York, 1935. Hardcover. First, limited edition. Number 530 of 685 copies.
A collection of 23 reproductions of drawings and sketches of hunting dogs by Kirmse, preceded by an original frontis etched plate signed by the artist in pencil (24 total), with an extra suite of three plates. The folio of extra plates contained in original brown paper folder has seldom survived.
This is a personalized copy once owned by dog breeder Helena Ellsworth Bailey of Connecticut, whose dogs are featured in one of the illustrations (dogs are identified in writing on one of the pages as shown).
Overall condition is very good, with some light external wear, a bit of soil to the rear cover,
minor hint of age toning on most pages,
good hinges, pages free from chips or tears; folder is lightly chipped around two of the edges.
Names of previous owners appear on the front free endpaper, the half-title, the folder for the extra plates, and by blind-stamp on the preliminary blank page as shown.
Please note that the original book contains 25 total drawings and an extra suite of six plates. This copy is missing one page (drawing of two pointers) and three of the six extra plates in folder.
Stored in a smoke-free environment.
A clean and well-kept copy made even more interesting through its provenance.
