As an homage to the 25th anniversary of the official designation of the Maple Tree as Canada's national arboreal emblem, the coin's design includes a specially designed single year issue privy mark.

Classic Style Maple Leaf Imagery
Obverse: The inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "20 DOLLARS" and "2021" encircle the obverse, traditional strike, reverse proof rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This right facing likeness of the Queen was crafted in 2003 by award-winning Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt.
Reverse: A beautifully detailed super incused sugar maple leaf adorns the reverse. The leaf is encircled by the inscriptions "CANADA," "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" and "9999," with the exciting Maple Leaf "25" privy mark positioned near the stem of the leaf. Acclaimed sculptor Walter Ott (1920-2020), the Mint's Chief Engraver and Director of Art from 1977 until his 1985 retirement, created the time-honored maple leaf graphic in 1979 for the introduction of the Gold Maple Leaf series.
